A Little Bit About Barbara Lamb and where her fine art passion began . . .
Barbara was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and six years later without any consultation whatsoever was moved to Calgary, Alberta where she began her career as an artist. Her first public expression of her creativity involved one pair of bright pink socks, one pair of cherry red corduroy pants, and one flaming orange t-shirt, all worn on the same day to her elementary school. It was not the success she envisioned, however she persevered and with the support of her family received a diploma of Art and Design from Red Deer College in 1984. During her time at college she participated in two artist’s travel workshops. The first was a trip to New York City and the second trip to Mexico followed with two weeks of studio time. Both trips increased her passion for painting and for the arts in general. After college she worked as a graphic artist for the Government of Alberta and then for a time as a draftsman and computer administrator with an engineering firm, continuing to paint in her spare time. Then the opportunity came to become the sole proprietor of her own company - Imaginations Ink. - working both as a graphic designer and visual artist. In 2000 she decided to devote all her energies to creating fine art paintings. She currently lives with her husband Nolan and their French Bulldog clown, Maximus, in Didsbury, Alberta.

I see an object, experience a moment or someone hands me a great photograph and immediately I have to make a painting of it. It might be a yellow envelope, the way the light falls on an object or the way someone is posed. The subject matter is important but only as it lends itself to the whole concept. It is all about the moment and some illusive quality I see and want to capture. I love painting in oil for the most part, but each medium has its own intrinsic characteristics which lend to the atmosphere or the technique in which the story will be told. Each medium and subject matter presents its own unique problems to solve.
Currently I am enjoying creating scenes for my still life series in between commissions.
